WHAT HAPPENS IN A TAVERN?
Thanks for being a free subscriber to The Three Taverns!
What happens in a tavern?
Hospitality
Warmth
Friendship
Food and drink
Music
Fire and smoke
Encouragement
Gratitude
Teaching
Finding your tribe
My hope for The Three Taverns is to be a resource for all of this and more. At times we will challenge our current thinking with teaching that is far from the normal “churchy” or religious perspectives. What the UNLIMITED (my favorite name for God) is doing is far from tame and normal. He is laughing at the kings and kingdoms of this world and their attempts to stop His rule (Psalm 2:1-6)! At other times we will confirm that we are on the right course. We may disagree, but that’s what a tavern is all about! Disagree but sip and smoke together anyway!
Paul stopped in the Three Taverns (Acts 28:15) on his way along the Appian Way into Rome. He was preparing to face up to Caesar, declaring there is a greater King.
The Three Taverns was close to, but not in, Rome, just as we believers are in but not of the world. There Paul the Messenger was met by believers who heard he was on the way to Rome.
A tavern can be full of story, noise, laughter, shouting, songs, food and drink, warmth, fellowship, hospitality, encouragement, gratitude, complaining, camaraderie, love and enmity. A tavern is a lot of things. But this day, in this tavern, there was a man of the ages.
At this time I am sure no one realized the historical significance of this man Paul. But he was preparing for a "showdown" with the powers of this world and God's Message, just like Jesus prepared Himself in the garden prior to standing before the Roman Procurator Pilate, making His confession, and taking on the sins of the world on the cross at Golgotha. (I Timothy 6:13)
Here at The Three Taverns we will connect with other truth-seekers, upward-lookers, mobilizers, implementers, those living life in this creative time to make a difference. This will not just be a place for information, but a call to FORMATION.
We will also announce in-person "tavern" times to come together. Such as beginning at THE MISSION CIGAR in Spring Hill, TN at 6:30am Tuesday mornings starting April 9.
There will be occasional “flash-mob” impromptu afternoon or evening gatherings for music, challenge, story, all to point to following Jesus. And please pass this along to others you think might like what we do here.
