“Tavern Talks” on Tuesday mornings is going fantastic, actually better than I even imagined when I started it. The fellowship, friendship and encouragement deepen each week. More about that at the bottom.
OUR NEW VENTURE
As we all do, I occupy many roles in life: Son, brother, husband, father, grandfather (Stogie by name!), businessman, friend, confidante, student, teacher.
I also have two “jobs”: a disciple of Jesus and a tentmaker.
JOB ONE is representing Jesus in this world. When He called me He said, “you will be my witness” just as He said to anyone who commits their life to Him. I point people to Him every day, I travel in His Name, I teach studies of His word, I have planted church gatherings in different parts of the world, I write for Him. This is my priority #1 and has been ever since I met Him in a personal and profound way in my early 20’s.
He has led me on many incredible adventures and, while we have never lacked food, clothing and shelter, following Him has cost us many worldly riches. But as Paul could say, it is all dung compared to knowing Him.
JOB TWO is whatever I do as a tentmaker to enable me to live physically in this world to carry out job one. Emily and I have raised 6 awesome children all while trusting Jesus, the CEO of the Universe, to provide our needs so we could serve Him.
For over 20 years Emily stayed home with our kids making it a great home for our family; the only source of income for us as I preached on the streets, formed house churches, traveled as a missionary, etc. was what God provided through supporters and my efforts as a tentmaker. Now Emily has a wonderful career as a project manager and I continue as a free agent minister and a tentmaker.
I have never asked for money for myself as a minister of the gospel. But we have had so many daily miraculous provisions from many supporters as well as God's favor through the decades. I could fill a book with those incredible examples of how the living God showed Himself as our Provider.
As a tentmaker I have been an early morning janitor cleaning banks, an HVAC installer, an automatic car wash builder, a messenger/delivery service owner, a network marketer, a worship leader in a congregation, an Uber driver, a business owner, etc. all to enable me to use my time effectively to do JOB ONE.
I have just begun a new tent-making venture, one that both Emily and I think accurately reflects our call to help others stand on their own two feet, to walk in freedom, to produce freedom from financial slavery, to prepare and build a strong foundation.
In this tentmaking venture I do two things:
1. I give common people uncommon access to precious metals at dealer cost. This Buyer's club is for anyone who wants to purchase gold, silver and precious metals as an investment or a hedge against the value-loss of our currency. Some people have called gold God's money since it is mentioned from the very beginning of time as a metric of value in creation (see Genesis 2:11-12).
2. Along with the buyer's club, I help interested people build a network that helps them build a residual income if they choose.

We tell stories.

We talk about Jesus and life with Him.
