Dear Readers,
Thank you for being a free subscriber to The Three Taverns!
Here we like to refresh our viewpoints, hear different perspectives and learn from each other. As in any tavern, you talk about life, religion, politics, family, friendship.
As Paul was entering Rome as a prisoner, and for all he knew it might be his last journey, he stopped in a town just outside of Rome called The Three Taverns. There he found encouragement from other fellow pilgrims, followers of Jesus who on a daily basis face life in a world at enmity with their Lord.
We too need that encouragement.
I have a guest column from a friend of mine, Joseph Watson. I found this article to be uplifting and hope you do as well. By the way, Joseph writes in all small letters, so that is not a mistake!

GUEST COLUMN BY JOSEPH WATSON

if you’re like me, you often feel like you’ve never fully possessed your ‘promised land,’ and are living far short of God’s dreams for your life.
.
since everything in the natural reflects something in the Spirit, what does the israelites’ biblical promised land have to teach us?
.
well, when God declared the physical borders of the land he promised to give his people — and btw, several times he said this was an inheritance for them and their descendants forever — there were other people groups living on the land.
.
the principle God gave was clear : he was giving them the land, but their possessing of the land involved evicting those enemies. God gives, but we must fight to possess it.
.
oftentimes, it’s easy for us to blame God for our not fully realizing his promises in our life. but how often is the real reason that we haven’t gone to war against our spiritual enemies, who have a vested interest in keeping us in the wilderness, or even egypt?
.
the saying goes, ‘possession is 9/10 of the law.’ well spiritually, possession is 100% of the inheritance we experience.
.
who are the spiritual canaanites, hittites, amorites, perizzites, jebusites and girgashites standing in the way of you claiming your inheritance? God’s already given it to you — it’s yours for the taking.
.
in joshua 18:3, joshua calls together the leaders of seven israelite tribes who had not yet received their inheritance, despite having been in the promised land for a while.
.
he asks them the same question the Holy Spirit would ask you and me today : ‘how long will you wait before you begin to take possession of the land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given you?’
.
what are we waiting for? today’s a perfect day to quit blaming God and start battling the squatters on our inheritance.
Thank you Joseph for these words of reminder and courage!
ENJOY THOSE DOGS AND COWS!
Today is the first Fourth of July in 23 years when neither of the world’s two greatest competitive eaters, Takeru Kobayashi and Joey Chestnut, will feature in the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. Instead, they will face off live in a Netflix special on Labor Day. Is nothing sacred?

Related: McDonald’s USA president Joe Erlinger admitted the company was “not successful” with the McPlant burger. Consumers weren’t loving it, and it seems the company has no plans to bring the patties back. The red-blooded American loves meat. Who knew!
Happy Independence Day on this July 4th! And enjoy them dogs and cows!
